School of Media & Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University offers international graduate programs with scholarship opportunities. While the deadline for scholarship applications has passed, please be advised that May 31, 2024, is the DEADLINE for self-supported applications. 

Founded in 1896, SJTU is one of the three oldest universities in China. It has cultivated more than 300,000 outstanding graduates, including former Chinese president Jiang Zemin and "The Father of Chinese Aerospace" Qian Xuesen. Established in 2002, SMC of SJTU consists of three departments, including Journalism & Communication, Film & Television, and Cultural Industry Management. It offers a series of undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs in these fields.

Our journalism and communication major ranks top 5 in China, and in top 100 of the QS World University Rankings by Subject in 2023. It was rated A+ of China’s subjects by the 2023 Times Higher Education.

SMC offers two English-taught programs in New Media Studies at Master and Doctoral levels respectively. We are home to nearly 300 international students from more than 60 countries around the world, including graduates from famous universities like University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, University College London, University of South California, Moscow State University and University of California-Los Angeles.

l  All applicants of international programs must be non-Chinese citizens.

l  Master program applicants must have a bachelor degree.

l  Doctoral program applicants must have a master degree.

3. Tuition Fee

M.A. in Journalism and Communication：28,900 CNY/Year

MFA in Broadcasting and Television: 40,000 CNY/Year

Ph.D. in Journalism and Communication：45,500 CNY/Year

5.  How to Apply

Step 1: Complete the Online Application

Complete and submit an online application at Study@SJTU (http://isc.sjtu.edu.cn/)  before the application deadline. If you wish to apply for the scholarship at the same time, please complete the application before the scholarship deadline.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is RMB 800 (approx. USD 120), non-refundable and non-transferable. Payment must be made in RMB or USD. You can choose online payment or bank transfer in the online application system.
