“China Through My Eyes" Short Video Contest Lauched
In order to enhance international students’ knowledge of Chinese culture and society, and to stimulate their innovation, creation as well as entrepreneurship in new media communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University will host "China Through My Eyes": Short Video Contest for International Students in China in 2019. On December 19, 2018, a Press Conference was held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University Minhang Library, marking the launch of this contest.
"China Through My Eyes": Short Video Contest for International Students in China aims to encourage international students to present China’s image from an objective and authentic perspective through their personal experience and observation. Their videos will reflect not only real life of international students in China, but also China itself in its true colors. The contest is expected to improve international students’ cross-cultural communication ability and to facilitate exchanges between Chinese students and international students.
Representatives of several media attended the press conference, including Xinhua News Agency, Jiefang Daily, the Paper.cn, Xinmin Evening News, Shanghai Observer, Sixth Tone and International Channel Shanghai. Prof. Benqian Li, Dean of School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Yinhao Tang, Deputy Director of Publicity Office in Shanghai United Media Group, Hourui Li in charge of News Center in CPC SJTU Office of Publicity and more than 50 faculty members and students at School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University also attended the press conference.

This contest is hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, organized by School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, partnering with more than 30 universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Communication University of China, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Jinan University. Students with foreign nationality currently enrolled in universities in Mainland China are eligible to participate in this video contest. They are encouraged to film short videos about China in their eyes using their mobile phones or other devices.
Participants can submit their videos from January 1 to April 15, 2019. Videos should be 1-5 minutes long in the contestant’s native language or in English with Chinese or English subtitles, focusing on the "China Through My Eyes" theme. Videos should be submitted to the website: https://upload.smd.sjtu.edu.cn. Contest results will be announced by the Organizing Committee on the contest website as well as on websites of the host and the organizer on May 11, 2019. Winning teams and individuals will receive their prizes at a concluding ceremony.
As the contest’s organizer, School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has witnessed rapid progress in the past few years. Its Journalism and Communication discipline ranked top 5 in 2017 Discipline Evaluation by the Ministry of Education and top 3 in Shanghai Ranking of best disciplines in China. It also has one of the highest proportions of international students among universities in China. There are more than 300 international students enrolled in the school who come from 58 countries of the world. Some international students even graduated from world prestigious universities like University of Chicago, University College London, University of South California, Moscow State University and University of California-Los Angeles. International Graduate Programs in New Media taught in English in School of Media and Communication have attracted more and more applicants every year.
